If you look at our high scores boards you’ll see that it has been a great start to a new and exciting season. Big highlights include Harold Choate having his first ever 700 series with 703, Becky Ryan having a big 246 game, Danny Lorg had a big 280 game and Mike Backhaus bowled a 730 series in his 2nd week back after not bowling a game for three years.
Our newly formed Lucas Lanes Bowling Council is working on a lot of ideas to promote bowling in Blackwell and make Lucas Lanes a better place to bowl. The council wanted to bring back the Emaline Rapp Memorial Double Tournament as it was always an exciting event. The Emaline tournament qualifying is scheduled for October 26, 27 and November 2 with the finals being at 7pm on November 2. We expect many out of town and out of area bowlers, so local bowlers need to reserve times to bowl as many shifts will likely fill up. First place will be $1,200.00 with 100 entries. 12 teams will make the finals with one ladies team and one super senior team (both 60 and above) are guaranteed to make the finals. The council also thought that we should have a No-Tap Doubles Tournament so one is scheduled for September 28 &29. Our last Baker Team Tournament was so much fun that the council thought we should have another one. October 12 will be the date for it. Sign your team up now as only five team spots remain open. This is just the beginning, many exciting things are planned for this season.
We are always working on ways to improve Lucas Lanes. The newest is the soft drink menu that has now been expanded. In addition to Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew, we now have Cherry Limeade, Orange Gatorade, Lemonade and Lipton Sweet Tea.
Our Scratch Draft league has turned into one of the best scoring and highest paying leagues in the state with more than $15,000.00 in prize money. Two tremendous team scores early in the season were from the Randy Buller team whose 3316 series is an average of more than 221 per game for the night and the Brandi Stephens team averaged 237 per person with a big 1189 game. You can follow the highlights of this league on Facebook.
